Sen. Kesha Ram Hinsdale, of the Chittenden Southeast District, and Rep. Monique Priestley, of Orange 2, announced sponsorship and introduction of the Vermont Kids Code, legislation to make technology safer for young users and protect their privacy.

New legislation is aimed at keeping Vermont kids safe online and protecting their privacy. Sponsors say the Vermont Kids Code would require Big Tech to implement basic protections for children, and it holds them responsible if they put kids’ well-being at risk.

Vermont introduced a similar bill earlier this month and an Illinois lawmaker will introduce one next week. Legislators in New Mexico, Maryland and Minnesota are in the process of updating bills submitted last year.
